Agrícola Cayaltí expands blueberry cultivation in Lambayeque, Peru

Agrícola Cayaltí, transitioning beyond its historical focus on sugar cane in Lambayeque, has launched Inversiones Yarabamba in February 2021 to spearhead new agro-export ventures slated for 2024. The forthcoming initiative, under the banner of Agrícola del Zaña, aims to cultivate 250 hectares of blueberries within a May to November 2024 timeframe. This move aligns with the company's strategy to leverage high-value crops to tap into the global market demand, as outlined in its 2023 Annual Report.

Currently, through Inversiones Yarabamba, Agrícola Cayaltí manages 300 hectares of blueberries, encompassing 200 hectares of Sekoya Pop and 100 hectares of Matías varieties, with a projected increase from 400 to 3,500 metric tons in blueberry production.

The Sekoya Pop variety, in particular, is noted for its productivity in the Zaña valley and its premium status in international markets. Inversiones Yarabamba, with a landholding of 2,020.42 hectares in Lambayeque provided by Agrícola Cayaltí, supports not only blueberries but also avocado and mandarin cultivations, with mandarin production expected to commence in 2025.
