Honey plums from Guizhou province welcomed in Thailand

Zhenning Bouyei-Miao Autonomous County in the Chinese province of Guizhou has commenced its first shipment of honey plums to Thailand, totaling approximately 150 kg. This event is seen as a stepping stone for Guizhou's agricultural sector, particularly for future exports of local produce to the Thai market.

Qi Fei, the chairman of Guizhou Huangguoshu fruit company, highlighted the significance of this development for other agricultural products aiming for the Thai market.

The unique climate of Zhenning, marked by limited rainfall, ample sunshine, and wide diurnal temperature swings, creates an optimal environment for growing plums that have a distinctive, honey-like flavor. The cultivation of honey plums in the county covers an area of over 14,500 hectares, generating an annual output value of more than 3 billion yuan ($420 million).

Liu Dan, deputy head of the Guizhou Chamber of Commerce in Thailand, underscored the importance of the Belt and Road Initiative and bilateral government cooperation in enhancing the presence of Guizhou's produce in Thailand. Liu's comments were made during a delegation visit to Thailand organized by the Guizhou provincial government in mid-May.
