At the onset of summer, Australian macadamia nuts are in their fruit-bearing stage in Gale village, located in Jiangcheng Hani and Yi Autonomous County, Pu'er city, within the southwest region of China's Yunnan Province. The village is home to a substantial Australian macadamia nut plantation that covers more than 10,000 mu (approximately 666.67 hectares), which has been pivotal in generating business opportunities for both the village and the county.
In efforts to enhance income growth and ecological development, Jiangcheng has in recent years, positioned the Australian macadamia nut industry as a key driver. The county has adopted a novel development approach that creates an integration of enterprises, plantations, and farmers, aiming to establish a collaborative growth in the nut's industrial chain and aid in rural revitalization.
Currently, the plantation area dedicated to Australian macadamia nuts in Jiangcheng county spans 300,000 mu (around 20,000 hectares), with the production area reaching 150,000 mu (10,000 hectares). Projections for 2024 estimate the yield to be 20,000 tonnes, valuing approximately 250 million yuan (about $34.36 million).
