In the initial six months of 2024, Cambodia has seen a notable increase in its fresh longan exports, reaching over 14,800 tons, marking a 120 percent rise from the previous year's 6,725 tons, as per the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF). The country's main market for this fruit is China, where the demand for Cambodia's fresh longan continues to grow since its market was first opened to Chinese consumers in late 2022.
Im Rachna, a spokeswoman for MAFF, highlighted the collaborative efforts between the ministry and local longan growers to meet the technical standards and requirements of the Chinese market, ensuring a steady supply. Growers adhering to these standards are able to command higher prices for their produce. The increase in exports has been supported by joint efforts between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Commerce, aiming to enhance the visibility and reach of Cambodia's agricultural products in international markets, particularly in China.
