Australia hosted World Potato Congress

Attracting more than 1,000 delegates from around the world

The World Potato Congress, a leading networking organization for the global potato industry, hosted its 12th global event in Adelaide, Australia, June 23-26, attracting more than 1,000 delegates from around the world.

The mission of the World Potato Congress, a non-profit organization supported by a group of volunteer directors representing worldwide potato jurisdictions, is to create networks to help drive sustainable growth of the potato.

The theme "Old World Meets New" for 2024 captured the "rich historical legacy of potatoes as a food staple, the cutting-edge innovation and technology applied to their production, and substantial investments in research and development." The event addressed global changes in sustainability, climate, culture, and population dynamics.

Potatoes USA Chairwoman, Shelley Olsen, CEO Blair Richardson and Executive Administrator Chelsea Gray attended the three-day conference to share the work being done to strengthen the demand of potatoes through marketing and research in the United States. Richardson presented an update about the importance of targeting educational marketing campaigns towards Gen Z to an engaged audience while Chairwoman Shelley Olsen and Executive Administrator Chelsea Gray fielded questions throughout the conference from the many participants interested in learning more about Team Potato and all current activities being done to connect to food service operators, retailers, consumers and nutritionists.
