Good performance for Tunisian stone fruits this summer

The Tunisian stone fruit season is coming to an end, at the end of August, and has been a success, according to Fatma Zramdini, CEO of RioFresh.

Despite the drought, as the country is experiencing its fifth year of water stress, stone fruit volumes improved this year. Zramdini says, "The volume of peaches and nectarines increased by 5% on the previous season to 122 thousand tonnes. Apricots increased by 28% to 41 thousand tons, and plums by 16% to 19 thousand tons."

Quality is also satisfactory, adds the exporter: "Fruit is generally exportable, with an abundance of AA and A sizes, and a Brix between 11 and 13."

" We saw a nice demand for Tunisian stone fruits from the Gulf countries, Europe and Canada. This year we had orders from Asia, such as Hong Kong and Singapore. Prices have increased on average by 10-15% compared with the previous year," continues Zramdini.

The exporter concludes, "Tunisian stone fruits enjoy a good reputation on the international markets. At RioFresh, we're looking to increase our exports to Europe for the rest of this season and to develop our customer base for the next season. We draw on a long experience of specializing in supplying supermarket chains in the Gulf region and Eastern Europe, such as Futaim, Carrefour, Lulu, Danube, Voli, Lakovic, and Idea."
