India remains Mozambique's largest importer in Q1

In the initial quarter of 2024, India sustained its position as the top importer from Mozambique, with purchases amounting to US$331 million, representing 18.8% of Mozambique's total exports. This data is derived from the Bank of Mozambique's foreign trade report for the first three months of 2024.

The produce primarily exported to India includes beans and cashew nuts. Natural gas, and coal also play a large role. Mozambique's overall exports in this period reached US$1,764 million, marking a modest growth from the previous year. Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates, accounting for 8.1% of Mozambique's imports, saw a 37.9% decrease in imports valued at US$163 million, predominantly in fuels and agricultural products. India's imports from Mozambique decreased by 1.9% to US$150.7 million, mainly comprising fuels, rice, and medicines.
