New Hampshire's peach harvest traditionally occurs in late August and early September. This year, the peaches arrived early and in abundance. Lorna Hazelton from Hazelton Orchards commented, "After last season's complete loss of our peaches, we are excited about a plentiful crop this year. We started picking about a week early and with a lot of watering, they are really sizing up nicely now. I'm not sure who's more excited about seeing peaches; us or our customers."
The previous year witnessed a significant loss in peach production due to a cold snap, affecting many orchards across New Hampshire. However, this season promises a stark contrast with a bountiful harvest.
Diane Souther from Apple Hill Farm shared insights into their successful season, "We are having an incredible peach season. At Apple Hill Farm, we pick every other day to ensure that the consumer gets the best tree-ripened peach possible. And with numerous varieties, we always have another flavour to choose from." Apple Hill Farm is also part of a 5-year trial involving 32 different stone fruits in collaboration with the NE States, exploring varieties from yellow and white fleshed peaches to donut-shaped peaches and nectarines. "Each picking brings a fun experience to taste and compare," added the farm's report.
