The Dominica Export Import Agency (DEXIA) has successfully coordinated two shipments of fresh produce to Barbados, marking a step forward in expanding market access for Dominica's farmers. These efforts, in collaboration with Barbadian importers, resulted in the delivery of 2,978 cartons of fresh produce. The shipments featured a variety of items, including plantains, avocados, tannia, dasheen, ginger, turmeric, limes, and passionfruit, with plantains making up the bulk of the cargo—2,452 cartons weighing a total of 122,600 pounds.
Additionally, the shipments included value-added agro-processed products like guava and passionfruit pulps, showcasing the diversity and quality of Dominica's agricultural output. The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica supported 60% of the shipment costs, totaling $134,165.00, under the Procurement of Agricultural Produce facility.
"The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy played a crucial role in ensuring the quality of the produce, providing field selection supervision and quarantine support. Hon. Dr. Vince Henderson, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade and Energy was also present to meet with exporters, observe shipping logistics, and offer essential trade support.
DEXIA is committed to enhancing the presence of Dominica's agricultural and agro-processed products in the Barbados market and is actively seeking opportunities for further regional market penetration," the statement detailed.
