Mercadona withdraws pineapples from its stores an hour a day due to supermarket flirting fad

There's a new TikTok trend in Spain in which people go to 'hook up' in the supermarkets of the Mercadona chain. The mechanics are simple: between 19:00 and 20:00, carry a pineapple upside down in your shopping cart and stroll around the wine section, where you have to bump your cart against another "participant's" trolley to show them that you like them. This fad has unleashed a frenzy on social networks and in the media, as many people are going to Mercadona in search of pineapples to see if they can hook up with someone. Unfortunately, they have no intention of buying the fruit.

Faced with this out-of-control situation, the retail chain's employees have taken exceptional measures. A video posted by the TikTok channel @24.horass shows a worker removing a cart full of pineapples to the warehouse between 19:00 and 20:00 to prevent the pineapples from being misused in an attempt to find romance.

Some TikTok users have agreed with this measure. "Some people just don't understand how they can be annoying to people who are working," a user stated. "If they take the pineapple, they should at least buy it," other users added.
