Pakistan sees uptick in fruit and juice exports to China

Pakistan has experienced an increase in its fruit and juice exports to China, with data from the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) highlighting a notable rise in frozen orange juice exports during the January-July period of 2024. This trend underscores the expanding demand for Pakistani produce within the Chinese marketplace.

Commercial Counselor at the Pakistan Embassy in China, Ghulam Qadir, attributed this growth to the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreements, alongside efforts by the Pakistani government and exporters to diversify and enhance their international market presence. He pointed out China's growing demand for high-quality, nutritious fruits and juices as a key opportunity for Pakistani producers.

"From January-July 2024 fruit juices and other related items' exports to China crossed $1.546 million, an increase of 226% as compared to last year in the same period. Frozen orange juice commodity code (20091100) crossed $1.54 million. Pakistani fresh mangoes are also gaining popularity in the Chinese market and the first seven months 4,214 kg of mangoes were imported by Chinese enterprises. In contrast, Pakistan's Prime Minister also gifted Pakistani mangoes to Chinese leadership and Chinese enterprises this year," Qadir explained.

Wei Ling Chen, Regional Director of Direct Access Chinese enterprise, shared insights into the importation process of Pakistani mangoes, noting the selection of Sindhri and Chaunsa varieties for their superior quality. She emphasized the natural growth process of Pakistani mangoes, contributing to their unique flavor and sweetness, despite the non-uniform size and less vibrant skin. Her company ensures quality through cooperation with high-standard orchards and monitoring all processes from picking to delivery in China.

This bilateral trade growth indicates potential for further collaboration and trade expansion between Pakistan and China in the agricultural sector, with a positive outlook for Pakistani fruit and juice producers in the Chinese market.
