Peaches from Fukushima Prefecture have been introduced to the British market, with their first appearance at Harrods in London. This initiative is part of efforts by Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) to promote Fukushima's produce and aid in the prefecture's recovery following the 2011 disasters. Priced at £80 for a box of three, the peaches were featured in a tasting event to highlight their quality. The endeavor was a collaboration between the Japan External Trade Organization and the Fukushima Prefectural Association in London.
Accounting for approximately 26 percent of Japan's peach production, Fukushima is the second-largest producer of peaches in Japan, trailing only Yamanashi Prefecture. The region's peach industry aims to overcome challenges related to the nuclear accident and sees the introduction to the British market as a step towards enhancing the international reputation of its peaches.
