Uzbekistan expands melon exports to the U.S. and the UK

Uzbekistan has made significant strides in expanding its melon exports, securing approval to begin shipments to both the United States and the United Kingdom.

The Ministry of Agriculture announced that Uzbekistan has received authorization to export melons to the U.S., following a successful meeting with U.S. Department of Agriculture officials. All technical requirements have been met, and exports are expected to start soon, pending final legal procedures. Uzbekistan is also exploring the export of other produce, such as grapes and cherries, to the U.S. Additionally, both countries have agreed to enhance collaboration in laboratory research.

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan has officially launched systematic melon exports to the UK. The first shipment of 10 tons was delivered to the British company Lemar Food LTD by Uzbek exporter Agricultural Products Export. British consumers, who have already enjoyed Uzbek melons through previous trial shipments, will now have regular access to this sweet fruit. Ongoing negotiations aim to broaden the range of Uzbek products available in the UK.

In the first seven months of 2024, Uzbekistan exported 23,300 tons of melons valued at $11 million, with key markets including Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia, and smaller shipments to Latvia and Germany.
