Vegetable cultivation ensures abundant production in Northern and Eastern Syria

Farmers in Syria's northern and eastern Jazira region are busy harvesting their autumn crops. Known for its fertile land, the region supports vegetable farming year-round, especially in towns like Tirbespi and Amuda, where crops are grown throughout summer, fall, and winter. In the village, near Tirbespi, farmers are cultivating up to 1,000 dunams of land, producing vegetables like aubergines, peppers, cabbage, watercress, and cucumbers.

Local farmer Arif Latif explained that they are already preparing for winter planting, with crops like onions, parsley, and lettuce ready to be sown, while they finish harvesting their autumn produce. He pointed out that winter farming is more affordable because the seasonal rainfall reduces the need for irrigation, helping to keep prices lower at local markets.

This year's harvest has been especially abundant, and farmers are selling their produce at reasonable prices. For example, aubergines, often used for the popular winter dish *makdous*, are being sold for 4,000 Syrian pounds (0.28 euros) per kilogram.

Arif also urged the Agricultural and Irrigation Authority to provide more diesel fuel for irrigation, which would further support local farming efforts.
