Belarus aims to boost domestic apple production

During a visit to a fruit-growing farm near Molodechno, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized the need for Belarus to achieve self-sufficiency in fruit production, highlighting apples as a primary focus. Lukashenko pointed out the importance of reducing dependency on imported apples by enhancing domestic production capabilities. He stressed the necessity of developing adequate storage facilities to support this initiative.

Lukashenko tasked Aleksei Bogdanov, the Minister of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade, with determining the precise requirements for the country's apple consumption and potential for market absorption, underscoring the goal to not only fulfill domestic needs but also to facilitate export capabilities. He expressed his commitment to supporting the fruit-growing sector, mentioning the allocation of additional land, specifically "at least, 1,000 hectares," to expand production areas.
