Mark Everett - Worldwide Fruit

"For the main part of the Peru and South African seasons the volumes supplied were relatively stable"

"At Worldwide Fruit we have been very pleased with the quality of the avocados we have received both from South Africa and Peru this season," said Mark Everett, Business Unit Director - Avocados at Worldwide Fruit.

"Peru bounced back with better quality after the challenges of the previous season and the resulting impact of cyclone Yaku and the El Nino effect. In general shipping from Peru ran to schedule, while South African experienced some shipping delays but again in general the season progressed as planned. For the main part of the Peru and South African seasons the volumes supplied were relatively stable."

"In general, the average fruit size was smaller from Peru but the farms particularly in the north of the country seem to have been affected most, with smaller sizes and lower yields. Raw material prices were particularly strong for the larger sizes throughout the season."

UK demand has remained strong and according to Kantar, sales in the 12 weeks to the end of end 1 Sept 2024 were up 28.9% year on year with volumes up 18.7%. The fastest growth was noted where fruit was sold ripe and ready to eat compared to unripened fruit.
