Terra Group will be an exhibitor at the Madrid fair (P8 E17)

"Fruit and vegetable exports reached 98 percent of turnover"

It was a good summer season for Terra Group, a company with headquarters in Bolzano and a logistics platform in Zevio (Verona). Terra Group boasts over one hundred suppliers throughout Italy and the produce is marketed abroad, mostly to the European big retail chain.

"We have recently acquired a few dozen hectares of farmland in Tuscany and are co-partners in a company in Campania. This is because we want to expand/strengthen direct production, and become a link between production and European consumers," explains director Lorenzo Pìrami.

Terra Group is managing to do this well, considering that the company boasts over 90 years of history, and that their products often reach foreign supermarket chains in just 24 hours.

As for the last few months, the campaign went very well for watermelons, stone fruits and grapes. Production areas are located in almost all Italian regions, depending on seasonality. "What characterizes us are the meticulous checks we carry out on production. In order to be packaged, the produce has to pass our quality controls. Our suppliers know this by now, and they never fail to comply."

In addition to the integrated pest management produce, Terra Group also markets a share of organic and biodynamic produce. "We export 98% of our fruit and vegetables, and the remaining 2% remains in Italy. Our target markets are Germany, Austria, Switzerland, central and northern Europe. The organic produce has recently stabilized, and the same is true for biodynamic produce, after a few years of double-digit growth."

Terra Group will attend Fruit Attraction Madrid (P8 E17). "At the fair, we will be consolidating relationships with our customers, as we have several appointments already scheduled. Likewise, we will be looking for new contacts both on the supplier front and with regard to big retail chains."

In the meantime, the company is preparing for the coming season: winter vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, salads, kohlrabi and radishes will be the main products requested by the European big retail trade.
