As reported by ABC.AZ, the wholesale prices for high-quality Guba apples in Azerbaijan are currently between 50-60 gapiks. The region began its mass apple harvest in mid-September, with a portion of the yield directed toward local, metropolitan, and regional markets within the country. However, the majority of the produce is earmarked for export, predominantly to Russia, with an annual export volume of approximately 40,000 tons.
Farmer Suleymanpasha Shakhveliev detailed the post-harvest process, noting that crops are sorted and packed in the orchards before being stored in farmer-owned facilities and local cold storages. The harvesting season is currently focused on White and Red Palmetto varieties. Shakhveliev emphasized the importance of timely harvesting to prevent loss from weather conditions, stating, "We try to collect apples on time, otherwise the fruits fall from the trees as soon as it rains." He also mentioned the pricing structure based on quality and size, with selected apples priced at 60 gapiks, second grade at 30-40 gapiks, and smaller fruits at 3-4 manats per box.
The district boasts 10,856 hectares of apple orchards, with 240 hectares recently added and 1,520 hectares under intensive cultivation.
