Lidl to relaunch its brand in the US
Lidl will relaunch its brand in the United States next week in a bid by the German discount grocery chain to improve its name recognition after years of struggling to build momentum on this side of the Atlantic, according to a top executive of the company's U.S. division. The marketing campaign, which carries the tagline "The Super-est Market", represents the largest investment the grocer has made in building its brand in the U.S. since it arrived in this country, Lidl US Chief Customer Officer Frank Kerr said during a panel session at Groceryshop. The campaign will kick off on October 16, Kerr said after the session.

US: The Save Mart Companies exits distribution business, links with C&S
The Save Mart Companies is exiting the distribution business and partnering with C&S Wholesale Grocers, a company spokesperson wrote in an email to Grocery Dive. The regional grocer, which runs the Save Mart, Lucky and FoodMaxx banners, is closing two distribution centers in California this fall, which will impact 527 workers, according to WARN notices. The Save Mart Companies said it recently sold Smart Refrigerated Transport, the company's Lathrop, California-based distributor, to C&S.

Aussies rethink grocery choices as costs rise
As grocery prices continue to rise, Australians are rethinking their shopping habits, with certain items increasingly left behind at the checkout. According to new research conducted by YouGov and commissioned by ShopFully: Men are more likely to put back fruit and vegetables (16%) compared to women (10%). Gen Z and Millennials are more likely to put back dairy products (24% and 23% respectively) and fruit and veg (22% and 18%) when faced with a high grocery bill.

Eurocash Group has created a retail purchasing group - Równi w Biznesie - as it seeks to offer customers quality products and reasonable prices. All companies operating retail chains associated with the Eurocash Group have signed a declaration on joining the purchasing group, the company noted. In total, it includes about 15,500 franchise and partner outlets, or as many as one-fourth of all grocery shops in Poland, excluding specialist shops and petrol stations.

A Gwynedd-based fruit and veg wholesaler is set to go even greener following the installation of new solar panels at its warehouse after to a £60,000 loan from the Development Bank of Wales. Bwydydd Oren Foods provides fresh produce to businesses, local authorities and retail customers throughout north and mid-Wales, from its warehouse on the Griffin Industrial Estate near Penrhyndeudraeth.

Waitrose has partnered with the nation's biggest delivery network Just Eat on a multi-year deal to expand its presence in the on-demand grocery and convenience sectors.
