Cosco Shipping launches 'Chile' vessel to boost cherry exports to China

On September 20, 2024, in Yangzhou, COSCO SHIPPING CHILE was officially named, marking a new addition to COSCO SHIPPING's fleet. This vessel, measuring 335.9 meters, has a capacity for 14,100 TEUs and includes space for 2,100 refrigerated containers. It is designed to support the transportation of Chilean cherries to China, aligning with the increased demand for fresh produce logistics.

Claudia Soler Bottinelli, Executive Director of the Chilean Cherry Committee, was named the ship's Godmother, highlighting the strong relationship between Chilean fruit exporters and COSCO SHIPPING. The vessel is a key component of the "Cherry Express" service, aimed at delivering cherries to China during the peak demand of the Lunar New Year, with 91% of Chilean cherries being exported to this market.

The Cherry Express route is tailored to meet the specific requirements of cherry logistics, including a short harvest period and the necessity for rapid, dependable cold chain solutions. COSCO's digital tracking systems ensure the transparency and freshness of the produce, positioning it as an essential element in the supply chain between Chile and China. This initiative is a testament to the growing trade relations between Latin America and China, with the COSCO SHIPPING CHILE serving as a crucial link in connecting Chilean agricultural products with the global market.
