China's blueberry imports from January to August decreased

From January to August, China's fresh blueberry imports increased in value but decreased in volume. According to commercial advisor Giovanny Decker, based on preliminary data from the General Administration of Customs of China, fresh blueberry imports reached a value of $101.4 million, i.e. 9.76% more than in the same period of last year. However, the volume stood at 11.3 million kilos, 7.71% less compared to the same period last year.

China's main fresh blueberry suppliers during this period were Peru, Chile, and Canada with sales worth $69.7 million (68.7%), $31.7 million (31.3%), and $11.1 million (0.1%), respectively. The value of imports from Peru increased by 13.9% and from Chile by 1.7%. In contrast, the value of imports from Canada decreased by 67.2%. In terms of volume, all suppliers experienced a decrease: Peru (-5.8%), Chile (-11.0%), and Canada (-62.5%).

Decker also noted that, unlike the same period in 2023, the United States, which had previously supplied fresh blueberries to China, made no shipments to this market in the current period. China's fresh blueberry imports are concentrated in five main provinces: Guangdong, with $70 million (7,561 tons); Shanghai, with $15.4 million (1,796 t); Zhejiang, with $13 million (1,624 tons); Liaoning, with $2.5 million (307 tons); and Tianjing, with $393,000 (47 tons).
