Indian pomegranate season has kicked off

"Pomegranate export volumes can significantly increase by 20 to 25 per cent”

The pomegranate season in India commenced with solid demand from various markets, says Sourabh Jaiswal, Business Development Manager for Indian produce exporter KK Star: "The pomegranate season is just beginning, yet demand is already strong, with markets experiencing robust demand worldwide. There's been a significant increase in demand for pomegranates, especially from European, Middle Eastern and USA markets. This trend reflects a growing appreciation for the fruit's health benefits and unique flavor profile."

For KK Star, the export target markets are rather diverse, which also allows them to increase their export volumes by a large amount, Jaiswal explains. "Our primary export markets for pomegranates include Germany, France, Netherlands, Sweden, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Malaysia and Oman. These regions have consistently demonstrated a growing demand for our high-quality pomegranates. Compared to the previous year, export volumes can significantly increase by approximately 20 to 25 per cent this year."

According to Jaiswal, KK Star will have to navigate several difficulties this season, including freight costs: "Climate fluctuations and the rising cost of logistics pose significant challenges for pomegranate exporters. However, we are taking proactive steps to mitigate these risks and ensure a stable supply chain. By optimizing our supply chain management and implementing advanced agricultural techniques, we are enhancing our resilience to these challenges. While the increase in air freight costs remains a concern, especially during peak demand periods, we are actively exploring alternative transportation options. Sea shipments to Gulf countries and the United States offer potential solutions to reduce expenses and stabilize our supply chain."

As the season has only just started, Jaiswal looks forward to the season's peak, although the company keeps an eye on the geopolitical developments in the world, which could bring more challenges to the exporter. "As we look ahead to the peak export season, the future of pomegranate exports appears bright. The global demand for this nutritious and delicious fruit continues to rise, driven by its health benefits and versatility. However, we remain cautious of potential disruptions caused by ongoing geopolitical tensions. These events have historically impacted global trade and could influence the pomegranate export market."

"Despite these uncertainties, the pomegranate industry remains optimistic and vigilant. We are committed to adapting to the ever-changing global market conditions and geopolitical landscape to ensure the continued growth and success of our exports," Jaiswal concludes.
