Week 41 Fruit Wholesale Market Report

More imported pineapples, durian prices increase

In the fruit wholesale market this week, the supply of imported pineapples and Chinese avocados continued to rise, while Peruvian blueberries saw an increase in volume but a slight drop in price. Durian prices, on the other hand, are climbing due to limited availability.

The supply of imported pineapples has been increasing since last week, leading to a price decline. This week, volumes grew further, bringing prices down to more typical levels. According to traders, the current price of Philippine golden pineapples #7 and #8 is around ¥100-115 per box, which is 15%-20% lower than last week. Although this price is slightly below the same period last year, it is now more reasonable and better for sales compared to the previous higher prices.

The arrival of Chinese avocados, including Pinkerton and Hass varieties, has also increased, driving down the price of imported avocados. Traders report that the overall quality of Chinese avocados is currently good. Buyers in southern regions tend to prefer the larger Pinkerton variety, while northern dealers favor the Hass variety.

Peruvian blueberries have arrived in greater quantities, causing a slight price reduction. Currently, 14mm+ blueberries are priced at around ¥180 per box, while the sweeter Magica variety commands a higher price, with some well-known brands selling it for as much as ¥235 per box. Traders noted that while the 14mm+ medium-sized fruit remains the most popular, there is limited supply in the market. They expect more blueberries to arrive next week, which could lead to a significant price drop, boosting sales.

Left: Thailand durians; Right: Philippines durians

Durian arrivals have remained limited, especially the A6 specification, which has caused prices to rise. Vietnamese Monthong A6 durians are priced at around ¥650 per box, while Thai Monthong A6 durians are priced at ¥920 per box. A trader specializing in Philippine durians noted that the increase in Vietnamese durian prices has led some buyers to switch to Philippine durians, which have been selling well. Traders expect durian prices to continue rising in the near future.

Meanwhile, Chinese grapefruits from Fujian entered the market in September, with traders reporting that the quality is satisfactory.
