The Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) has certified the first 10 tons of cherries destined for demanding markets such as China, India, Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea, and Spain, consolidating Chile as the world's leading cherry producer. In anticipation of a record year in exports, SAG has reinforced its team and improved inspection and treatment systems in the main producing areas, ensuring compliance with the highest international standards.
"The joint effort between the public and private sectors has allowed us to make the first shipments of 2,186 boxes of cherries by air. With the start of the harvest in the central-northern part of the country, in the regions of Coquimbo and Valparaíso, we expect the volume of cherry exports to continue to increase progressively", stated José Guajardo Reyes, National Director of SAG.
SAG will coordinate closely with producers and exporters during the export season, providing continuous supervision to ensure that production and post-harvest practices comply with the rigorous standards required by the destination countries. Jose Guajardo Reyes highlighted the importance of collaboration to implement preventive and corrective measures that ensure the phytosanitary safety of exported products, thus facilitating the resolution of problems and maintaining the competitiveness of Chilean fruit exports.
