A shipment from various ports in Latin America was received at Tianjin Port in north China, emphasizing the port's significance for Latin American imports. Tianjin Port is recognized as a key entry for these imports, facilitated by three direct shipping routes. The port's strategic location offers the most efficient inland transit to northern China.
Following a free-trade agreement with China, South American white shrimp entered the Chinese market, reaching Tianjin after initially being introduced in Guangdong. Additionally, an express route for Chilean cherries commenced in January 2024, ensuring arrivals within 22 days. Tianjin Port has also become a destination for Peruvian blueberries and Ecuadorian bananas, among other fruits from South America, according to Xiao Ye from Tianjin Port Holdings Co., Ltd.
The trade relationship between China and Latin America has seen significant growth, with China becoming the region's second-largest trade partner. In 2023, the trade volume reached approximately 481.6 billion U.S. dollars, marking an over 80 percent increase in the last decade.
