Almería has had a new storm just two weeks after the hailstorm that hit El Ejido. On Monday afternoon, torrential rains surprised the residents of several municipalities of the Poniente, in the province of Almería. The rainfall was most remarkable in Dalías, where up to 130 liters per square meter per hour were recorded, according to Ametse (Southeast Meteorological Association) stations. The towns of El Ejido, Balanegra and Vícar have also been affected.
The rainfall, which has been recorded in more localized areas, has caused the flooding of streets, houses and some greenhouses and has led to the temporary closure of the A-7 road due to the breakage of a drainage pipe.

"In about 30 minutes, we've had more than 100 liters per square meter of rain," says a local grower. "Several greenhouses have been flooded, especially in the areas which had the most rain, and the plants will be directly affected by it. There will also be an alarming increase in the humidity levels in the greenhouses in the area."
In general, according to sources from COAG (agricultural producers and ranchers' organization), "the impact of the new storm in Almeria has been localized and won't be significant for the fruit and vegetable sector."

However, the people of Almeria will be keeping a close eye on the weather, as these new storms are causing very heavy rainfall which will affect various parts of the Mediterranean from Tuesday onwards, especially in the Valencian Community, a region already hit hard by the storms and floods of October 29. Rainfall will be particularly heavy in Malaga, the Balearic Islands, Murcia, Alicante and Valencia, where heavy storms and the risk of further flooding are expected. A total of 57 orange and yellow warnings have already been activated on Tuesday. On Wednesday, this number is rising to 70 in 14 provinces.
