Jamaica warns of Christmas vegetable shortage after storm

The supply of vegetables in Jamaica could face limitations this Christmas due to the aftermath of Tropical Storm Rafael. Lenworth Fulton, the immediate past president of the Jamaica Agricultural Society, highlighted the storm's impact, noting it occurred as farmers were still dealing with the repercussions of Hurricane Beryl. The subsequent excessive rainfall has compromised various crops, notably vegetables.

Specifically, Fulton mentioned on Radio Jamaica News that sorrel and gungo peas, staples of the Christmas season, have suffered significantly. Additionally, the production of cabbage, cauliflower, and Irish potatoes has been negatively impacted by the rainfall. These developments may affect the availability of these vegetables during the festive season.
