A resident of Care UK Trymview Hall in Bristol, Albert Stiles, has attributed his longevity to a lifelong consumption of beetroot, celebrating his 100th birthday at the home. The centenarian, who has enjoyed beetroot since childhood, was treated to a beetroot and goat cheese terrine by the home's head chef, Darren Nelson, on his special day. Albert's preference for beetroot extends from traditional cold servings with mashed potatoes to more innovative dishes like the beetroot terrine presented by Nelson.
Beetroot is recognized for its nutritional benefits, including high levels of iron, potassium, fiber, manganese, and vitamin C, alongside antioxidants such as betalains and betacyanin, which are noted for their anti-inflammatory properties. Albert's milestone birthday included a celebration at Bristol Cathedral, where he was the guest of honor at a lunchtime recital, marking a century of life influenced by his dietary choices.
