For over thirty years, Wipal has specialized in buying and selling new and used pallets and packaging. "Whether it's wooden pallets, plastic pallets, or packaging in all shapes and sizes—new or used—customers know they're in the right place," says Sales Manager Huub van Velden.
In 2018, Wipal became part of the Van der Windt family, which also operates in the potato trade, fodder trade, and transport sectors. "It turned out to be a perfect combination. For instance, when we deliver potatoes to Germany, we can optimize our return trips by transporting pallets back."
This synergy was further enhanced in September 2023 when all business divisions consolidated under one roof in larger premises in De Lier. "We serve customers in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and even as far as France," Huub adds.
The company's strength lies in its flexibility, according to Huub. "The pallet industry has seen significant consolidation, with larger companies expanding. As a smaller, agile player, we see this as an opportunity. We can respond quickly to customer needs, understanding that time is critical. Customers just want the right pallet at the right time. No order is too small; we cater to everyone—from a single crate to full trailer loads of pallets. Our diverse stock and in-house transport allow us to deliver daily. Our sister company, Van der Windt Transport, operates thirty trucks daily."
Sustainability is also a key focus. "We are committed to a circular future by giving used pallets and packaging a second life. We sort, repair, and redistribute pallets, reducing the need for new materials and minimizing waste. Any leftover materials are always recycled—nothing is wasted," says Huub.
"Our product range is extensive: from nestable and stackable plastic pallets to durable plastic pallet boxes and used IBC containers. While demand in the fresh produce sector still leans heavily toward wooden pallets, we can meet any pallet requirement. Our work in this sector is seasonal, but we balance it with activity in other industries, ensuring consistent growth."
The pallet market has stabilized recently, following the disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic that caused severe shortages and soaring prices. "Now, things have normalized," Huub notes. "Looking ahead, our focus is on circularity, electrification, and introducing a pallet sorting line—investments that will enable us to serve our customers even better and faster."
