Chennai Airport is updating its cargo terminal to facilitate the export of apples from Sriperumbudur. The upgrades include a dedicated corridor for truck movement and additional parking to accommodate 200 more vehicles, expanding the space by 7,500 sq.m. To enhance security, the terminal will be equipped with four X-ray machines and have six built-up locations for efficient operations.
Road expansions at the Guindy and Chromepet ends aim to ease congestion, allowing smoother access for cargo vehicles. With an initial capacity for 70 tons of apples and the potential to increase to 100 tons, these infrastructure improvements are expected to boost cargo traffic by 30-35%, making Chennai a key export hub for apples.
