Henk Kamper with Kamper Farm Fresh

“This versatile packaging machine allows us to create custom packaging solutions for our customers”

Earlier this year, a versatile packaging machine was launched that accommodates the diverse needs of the produce industry. The NXXT machine from JASA has a modular design, providing customers with flexibility and allowing them to create custom packaging solutions. Henk Kamper with Kamper Farm Fresh out of Alberta owns one of the first JASA NXXT machines and explains why he believes this particular piece of equipment is the way forward for his company.

Adding value for customers
An important part of Kamper's business is grading, sizing, and packing potatoes for customers in Western Canada. Up until recently, Mulox bags, 50 lb. paper bags, cartons, and mesh bags were the most common size. In addition, potatoes are being offered in 5 and 10 lb. packaging. "The JASA NXXT however, gives us the opportunity to offer different types of packaging as well as a range of different sizes for our customers. In other words, it allows us to expand our services." In view of market trends and to prepare for the future, Kamper feels it's necessary to have the ability to offer different packaging options. "Our customers are looking to have a variety of potato products packaged and we feel the JASA NXXT is going to play an important role in continuing to serve our customers with the products and packaging types they need," he says. Whether a customer wants to have large potatoes or creamer potatoes packaged, it's simply a matter of changing out a tube.

Versatility
Previously, a new packaging style required the purchase of a new piece of equipment. "Versatility is one of the biggest advantages of this new machine," says Joost Somford with JASA Packaging Solutions. It's difficult to predict the direction the market is heading. "Imagine a customer believes a certain type of packaging is going to be a success and invests in dedicated equipment, but the retailer is now requesting another packaging style." This new packaging machine is compatible with any produce item and any packing style. An added benefit is that the JASA NXXT can be controlled online with JASA Connect, and standardization makes it more service friendly. Only one type of parts needs to be kept in stock, increasing the chances of fast delivery. For predictive maintenance, or if a part is failing, customers can receive a notification on their phone or in their email and have the ability to immediately order the part online. "As a customer, this type of standardization sounds like music to our ears because it means less downtime," Kamper adds.

The NXXT packaging machine is manufactured in the Netherlands and took a few years to develop. "We feel we've built a distinctive piece of equipment that will add value to our customers' businesses for the years to come," Somford concludes.
