More volumes and good demand from Europe for Turkish pomegranates

It's been a positive season for the Turkish pomegranates, with increased production, says Sara Aslıhan Metin, sales of responsible for Turkish fresh produce exporter Göknur: "The Turkish pomegranate season was better than last year. Overall, our pomegranate volumes increased by approximately 30 per cent this year. This increase was mostly driven by the fact that we grow our own pomegranates organically, with 0 pesticides according to the MRL values. However, on top of that Goknur has invested in new plantations since its public offering in 2023. This has also made a significant impact on our production volumes."

The fact that Göknur would be able to export more volumes did not come as a surprise. Metin states they already had more demand originating from the trade shows that the company visited in 2024. "We started our preparations well before the season actually started, as we received serious demand for fresh pomegranates at the fairs that we attended. Therefore, new clients were found and supplied in 2024. We also received solid orders in terms of quantities from companies we've worked with regularly throughout the season, and they reserved many of our products. This year, our production capacity has increased considerably as we support production with technology. Customers also requested additional orders, because they saw the speed with which we could deliver on those orders. Overall it has meant that our pomegranate season has been very busy and went really well for us, and I can even say that this positive process is still ongoing."

Most of the Turkish pomegranates that are exported find their way to the European continent, Metin explains: "The most interesting market for Turkish pomegranates, especially organic pomegranates, is the European market, as we send to many countries there. Since we produce fruit in our own gardens, we controlled the costs and managed to offer our products to our customers at prices that were very close to last year's prices. We are in the last quarter of the season and our garden preparations for next year have already begun. We've had a satisfying season, both domestically as well as for our exports."
