"New facility offers space to expand packaging operations further"

Varekamp and ERP to relocate to new facility at Honderdland, Maasdijk, next spring

Varekamp Coldstores and Europe Retail Packing (ERP) are entering a new chapter together. Starting in spring 2025, both companies will relocate to a new state-of-the-art facility at the Honderdland business park in Maasdijk, while the head office of ERP will remain in Poeldijk. The new building, spanning 6,000 m², features 14 cold stores with a capacity of at least 4,000 pallet positions and includes a dozen docks.

New generation
Willem Nowee is excited about the move to Maasdijk. "Honderdland has a great strategic location along the motorway, and with the new Blankenburg connection, we'll be closer to the ports. This makes it an excellent location for us and our customers!" The managing director of Varekamp is already focused on mentoring the next generation, including commercial manager Pascal Kouwenhoven.

"I'm confident that the Varekamp/ERP combination will thrive in the new facility. At our current location, packaging activities are limited, but in Maasdijk, we'll have the space to expand operations like further repackaging, flow-packing, and netting. This will allow us to grow as a logistics service provider with strong packaging capabilities, making both companies more active and visible," says Pascal.

Over 70 years of history
Varekamp Coldstores was founded in 1953 by Ben Varekamp as a cold storage facility for Westland grapes. Forty years later, the company joined the Van Rijn Group. In 2001, Varekamp Coldstores moved to ABC Westland. "Over time, our cooling and drying services for exotics and ginger have grown significantly, but we excel across the entire fruit range. In the new facility, we'll be even better equipped to meet the needs of our global customers," Nowee explains.

"The best part about moving to a new location is the opportunity to scrutinize and optimize your processes using the latest techniques available," Willem continues. "The entire process is being redesigned, with sustainability as a key focus. For instance, the building features solar panels on the roof and a new cooling system that will deliver significant energy savings using cutting-edge technology."

The new building is scheduled to become operational on 1 May 2025. Activities at the current location in ABC Westland will be gradually phased out starting on this date.
