Spanish pepper exports from January to September 2024 experienced a remarkable recovery after a decrease in the previous year. According to a report by Hortoinfo based on Estacom data, Spain exported 586.13 million kilos of peppers, i.e. 15.27% more over the same period of 2023, reaching a value of 1,185.47 million euros. This is a record value for the sector at the end of the third quarter and it was achieved with an average export price of 2.02 euros per kilo, which is slightly lower than in the previous year.
Germany consolidated its position as the main destination for Spanish peppers, acquiring 35.1% of the total exports and increasing its purchases by 23.95% compared to 2023, with an expenditure of 429.59 million euros and an average price of 2.09 euros per kilo. France and the United Kingdom followed with 88.06 and 72.78 million kilos, respectively, and an increase in imports. The Netherlands and Italy round out the top five buyers, with significant imports and average prices ranging from 1.47 to 2 euros per kilo.
Almeria was the leading exporter with 343.22 million kilos, i.e. 58.56% of the national total, and 680.83 million euros in revenues. Murcia came second with 123.28 million kilos of pepper, 21.03% of the total, and 249.17 million euros. Alicante ranked third with 38.59 million kilos, 6.58% of the Spanish total, worth 80.8 million euros.
