The National Food Health, Safety, and Quality Service (Senasica) has announced that Tamaulipas will export approximately 12 thousand tons of citrus fruits to the United States in the coming weeks. The citrus, which includes orange and grapefruit, comes from 19 citrus orchards located in the municipalities of Padilla, Güémez, Ciudad Victoria, and Llera.
The General Directorate of Plant Health has certified that the production of these 19 orchards, authorized to export to the United States for the 2024-2025 season, complies with the quality standards demanded. The production was subjected to methyl bromide treatment, ensuring the absence of pests for export. Citrus production is carried out on a total area of 229 hectares.
The authorized farms in Tamaulipas are expected to ship 11,910 tons of orange and grapefruit. According to Senasica, producers will export Rio Red grapefruits and Valencia, Mars, Temprana, and Parson Brown oranges. Tamaulipas is Mexico's second-largest citrus producer, surpassed only by the State of Veracruz.
