Hortifrut Perú has recently marked a milestone by completing its inaugural blueberry shipment to China, utilizing the newly inaugurated Port of Chancay. The consignment, comprising 32 containers, reached the Asian nation on December 18, targeting the ports of Shanghai and Hong Kong within a span of 23 days.
Fernando Méndez, the general manager of Hortifrut Perú, stated, "This first shipment demonstrates not only the efficiency of the Port of Chancay but also its ability to accelerate export times, which represents a great opportunity to boost the Peruvian agricultural sector and strengthen our presence in key markets." The shipment predominantly featured Tasty blueberries, sourced from the Chao district in the La Libertad region, with two-thirds of the containers filled with this premium variety.
Bobby Yavari, CEO of Hortifrut APAC, commented on the strategic advantage provided by the Port of Chancay, noting, "Thanks to this modern infrastructure, we can guarantee that our blueberries reach our global consumers in perfect condition, which reinforces our commitment to quality." The Chinese market, constituting 15% of Peruvian berry exports as reported by Proarándanos, is anticipated to see an upsurge in blueberry imports by 2025, buoyed by the escalating demand and advancements in port infrastructure.
