AlUla launches 2025 citrus season to promote local fruit farming and agritourism

The Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) has announced the commencement of the Citrus Season 2025, scheduled from January 3 to 11, aligning with the peak harvest timeframe. This initiative is part of the RCU's strategy to bolster the agricultural sector and position AlUla as a leading agritourism hub.

Targeting economic uplift through community-centric initiatives and sustainable development, the Citrus Season serves as a crucial platform for local farmers to showcase their produce, harvested annually between November and February, playing a key role in the region's agricultural and economic landscape.

The event will highlight AlUla's citrus diversity, with over 5,000 farms hosting 405,000 trees across 29 varieties, including oranges and grapefruits, among others. These farms, spanning 701 hectares, contribute 14,000 tons to the Kingdom's annual citrus output of 160,000 tons, underlining AlUla's significant contribution to national agricultural strength and economic diversification efforts.

Activities for this year's Citrus Season include exhibition spaces for local stakeholders, events for community engagement, and a training course aimed at enhancing culinary skills with citrus fruits. This initiative, alongside the AlUla Dates Season, underscores the region's agricultural heritage and its role in bolstering the local and regional economies, advancing the RCU's sustainable development objectives.
