Buyers from Southeast Asian nations recently visited Shidi Town, Xiushan County, in Chongqing, to place orders for citrus, reflecting the international demand for Chongqing's agricultural offerings. Shidi Town's citrus has seen a surge in popularity abroad, with a milestone export of 100 standard containers to ASEAN countries in 2023, marking the first instance of such exports. This achievement includes obtaining independent brand origin certification and direct shipments.
Looking ahead to 2024, Shidi citrus exports are expected to reach 200 standard containers, with an anticipated transaction volume of 12 million yuan ($1.64 million), aiming for a significant increase in export value. The local government has established a citrus export center to support this growth, emphasizing the global expansion of Shidi citrus.
In addition to citrus, Chongqing's agricultural exports include chrysanthemums, with a notable presence in Singaporean markets. These flowers, sourced from various counties within Chongqing, have garnered attention for their quality and have contributed to rural revitalization efforts, improving the livelihoods of local farmers.
Chongqing's export strategy benefits from the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, enhancing the region's import and export capabilities. This strategic development has led to a fourfold increase in the area's import and export value within two years. The success of Chongqing's agricultural exports, including chrysanthemums and Fuling pickled mustard tuber, exemplifies the city's growing influence in international markets, with agricultural product exports witnessing a significant year-over-year increase.
As Chongqing continues to expand its agricultural exports, the focus remains on improving logistics infrastructure, market channels, and enterprise services to support the outward-oriented economy. The city's efforts in promoting its unique agricultural products are contributing to its reputation on the global stage, with a positive impact on local economic development and rural revitalization.
