Krishak Bharati Cooperative Ltd (KRIBHCO) has entered a joint venture with Farm Frites from the Netherlands to establish a potato processing plant in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh. This collaboration involves setting up a high-tech unit aimed at enhancing potato cultivation in the region.
The agreement was formalized by KRIBHCO Managing Director M R Sharma and Farm Frites Chairman Pieter de Bruijne. The initiative will focus on cultivating special potato varieties from the Netherlands, such as Santana and Quintera, in extensive areas around Shahjahanpur. A specialized team from both organizations will oversee the provision of seeds and cultivation guidance.
This project aligns with Uttar Pradesh's industrial policy as a super mega project, anticipated to boost local agricultural income and generate employment opportunities. A high-level delegation, led by Bruijne, has already assessed and finalized the project site in Shahjahanpur.
KRIBHCO, a prominent player in India's fertilizer sector, operates a major gas-based urea facility in Hazira, Gujarat, with an output capacity of 23 lakh tonnes annually. It also runs another fertilizer complex in Uttar Pradesh through its subsidiary, KRIBHCO Fertilizers Ltd, producing 11 lakh tonnes of urea. The cooperative is a principal promoter of the Oman India Fertilizer Company and offers a range of agricultural inputs, including DAP, NPKs, bio-fertilizers, and more.
Farm Frites, a company with five decades of experience, specializes in producing various potato fries and specialties, supplying food service providers in over 100 countries. It serves as a key supplier to major global food chains like McDonald's, KFC, and Domino's, growing 15 lakh tonnes of potatoes worldwide and offering more than 80 types of fries and appetizers.
