Martori Farms has acquired the assets of V.H. Azhderian & Co., a long-established company in the melon industry. This acquisition expands Martori Farms' operations into California's San Joaquin Valley, a key agricultural region known for its fertile soil and high productivity.
V.H. Azhderian & Co. has been involved in melon cultivation and distribution since 1915, when its founder, V.H. Azhderian, began operations in the Imperial Valley. Over the decades, the company established a presence in Holtville, Turlock, Dos Palos, and Los Banos. It became recognized for its melon packing and shipping expertise under the Three Star label, known for quality produce in the marketplace.
As part of the acquisition, Berj Moosekian, a longtime member of the Azhderian family business, will join Martori Farms as Director of California Agricultural Operations. Having managed the family's melon operations since the mid-1990s, Moosekian brings extensive industry experience to his new role. He will oversee the expansion of Martori Farms' California operations and the integration of the Los Banos facility.
"We recognize the history and contributions of V.H. Azhderian & Co. in the melon industry and look forward to continuing operations in California's melon-growing regions," said Steve Martori, CEO of Martori Farms. "With Berj Moosekian leading our California agricultural operations, we aim to ensure a smooth transition and continued production."
Martori Farms plans to utilize the Los Banos facility to enhance production, cooling, storage, and distribution capabilities. By integrating this site into its operations, the company aims to maintain efficiency and quality in its melon supply chain.
