Season for Polish winter vegetables is coming to an end

The season for Polish winter vegetables has passed without any major waves, and as such has been a stable season, says Kornelia Lewikowska, purchasing manager for Polish vegetable exporter Green Best: "The winter vegetable season in Poland has just about been completed, thankfully, without any major surprises this year. Let me walk that back, there was one big surprise for us, which was the fact that Polish cauliflower was available until mid-December, which is unusual. Looking at the white cabbage, we did notice a drop in good-quality products, so some companies were forced to import cabbage from Germany to fill in the gaps. As every year, the parsley trade is going well, but to sell it, you have to find good quality produce."

Lewikowska states that with the season almost coming to a complete end, the prices for certain winter vegetables are increasing, as less produce is available. "Currently, our goods are going mainly to France and the Czech Republic. Prices for winter vegetables were higher than they were in previous years. Due to the fact that the quantities of vegetables decrease when the end of the season comes near, the prices automatically increase as well. The season is coming to an end, and farmers are starting to plant new crops of white cabbage. Our company will start the summer season in May, with the trade of the new white cabbage and cauliflowers," she concludes.
