There was less production when it came to the Turkish apples this season, which had to do with the weather conditions, says Maria Arden of Turkish apple exporter Arden Fruit: "The apple season in Turkey started in July in 2024, with the Gala varieties being the first apples to be harvested. The season has had its challenges, as climate change affects us, as it does everyone else. The weather had a serious impact on the yield of apples, as heavy hail pestered the most important production region in Turkey, Isparta. This caused production to be lower than usual, but simultaneously the demand in India has also been lower than it has been in the years prior."
Other factors had a negative impact on the Turkish apple season, Arden emphasizes. "The Israeli-Palestinian war has negatively affected transport via sea, with freight rates rising and transit times tripling. This situation has challenged all price balances and competitiveness in the world, not just for Turkish apples. Looking at apples, the seasons have been bad all over the globe. Positively, the Red Delicious and Gala apples have been top performers for us in terms of exports."
The decline in production was so significant, that Arden Fruit exported less than half of the volumes they did in the season before: "While our company Arden exported 3500 tons of apples in the 2023 season, we were able to export only 1500 tons in the 2024-2025 season. The biggest reasons for this decline are ongoing wars, increasing input costs, and adverse weather conditions. None of these are under our control. Companies that export agricultural products are severely affected by these negative developments in the world," Arden concludes.
