Saudi Arabia's grape production exceeded 122,000 tons in 2023, fulfilling 66% of the Kingdom's market demand. This data, reported by the Saudi Press Agency, reflects the agricultural sector's capacity to meet local needs. The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) noted that over 7.13 million grape plants were cultivated, with 6.1 million yielding fruit.
The adaptability of grape farming in Saudi Arabia is attributed to its minimal water requirements and ability to thrive in various soils and climates. MEWA's separate report from last year identified a cultivation area of 4,720 hectares, with Tabuk leading production at 46,939 tons annually. Other regions like Qassim, Hail, and Asir also contribute to national output.
Efforts to support grape farmers include the provision of advanced technologies such as smart irrigation systems and organic farming methods. MEWA aims to boost local fruit consumption, highlighting the nutritional benefits of grapes. The harvest season spans from June to September.
