Robot improves efficiency in avocado packaging

Viscon has introduced the SwiftPick avocado solution, a dedicated pick-and-place machine designed specifically for packing avocados. The system is developed to operate within a compact footprint while enhancing production efficiency. According to the company, the machine is capable of handling up to four times more per square meter compared to traditional Delta robots. The smaller footprint aims to reduce both capital and operational costs while increasing output capacity.

The SwiftPick system automates both the unstacking of trays and the positioning of fruit, helping to reduce reliance on manual labor and mitigate issues such as workforce absenteeism. Its modular design allows integration into existing production lines and provides flexibility to adapt to varying production needs.

Although initially designed for avocados, the technology can be adapted for other types of fruits and vegetables. The company is developing additional pick-and-place robotic solutions for broader use in the fresh produce sector.

Key features of the system include efficient tray unstacking for secure handling and dual avocado placement using pick-and-place robotics for precise alignment. The machine then places the fruit onto the infeed of the flow packer, maintaining a continuous and high-capacity processing line. The goal is to support streamlined packaging operations through automation and improve overall productivity in the produce-packing industry.
