Georgia's agricultural exports grew by 17% in 2024, trade imbalance persists

In 2024, Georgia exported agricultural products to 107 countries, generating $1.68 billion in revenue, a 17% increase compared to 2023, when agri-exports totaled $1.437 billion. These figures were reported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Georgia.

However, despite the positive export growth, the country still struggles to achieve self-sufficiency and maintain a trade balance between agricultural exports and imports.

Imports still outweigh exports.

In 2024, Georgia imported agricultural goods worth $2.196 billion, 8.8% more than in 2023.

Fruits accounted for $236 million (€216 million) of total agro-exports.

  • Blueberry exports saw the highest growth, increasing by 33%, with the majority shipped to Russia and small batches reaching the EU.
  • Peach and nectarine exports grew by 13%.
  • Nut exports rose by 21%, mainly going to the EU, with smaller volumes sold to Armenia and Russia.

Processed fruit exports reached $18.9 million, an 80% increase from the previous year.

Processed nut exports amounted to $42.5 million, with 62% sent to Russia and 9% to Germany.

While Georgia's agricultural exports continue to grow, the country remains dependent on imports.
