China shows interest in importing mango, guava, and jackfruit from Bangladesh

During a recent meeting in Dhaka, the Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, conveyed China's interest in importing mango, guava, and jackfruit from Bangladesh. This development follows a request made by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus to the Chinese government for such imports.

Shafiqul Alam, CA Press Secretary, shared this information at a press briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy. Alam noted that the Chinese government's interest might provide new opportunities for Bangladesh's exports to China. "We will be able to export jackfruit there on a large scale. Besides, an opportunity has also been created for large-scale mango exports as the Chinese people like Bangladeshi mangoes," he stated.

Alam mentioned that export standards need to be upheld, with the World Food Programme (WFO) offering USD four million and technical assistance to support this effort.

Alam also expressed hope for strengthened trade relations between Bangladesh and China, coinciding with Chief Adviser Yunus's upcoming four-day visit to China beginning March 26.

In related news, the meeting of the Council of Advisers revealed 172,000 vacant government posts, with instructions from the Chief Adviser to address this issue. Alam also discussed Bangladesh's trade relations with India, noting increased trade despite visa challenges and emphasizing the need for fair and dignified relations.

Additionally, four hospitals in Kunming have been designated for Bangladeshi patients. Prof Yunus is actively inviting Chinese healthcare companies to invest in Bangladesh, aiming to enhance the country's health sector.

CA Deputy Press Secretaries Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar and Apurba Jahangir were present at the briefing.
