Georgia's potato exports to Russia surge nearly 30-fold

From early January to early March 2025, Georgia exported 27,500 tons of potatoes to Russia, worth $8 million. In comparison, during the same period in 2024, only 932 tons were exported, according to Geostat, the National Statistics Bureau of Georgia.

The bureau notes that Georgian potato exports to Russia have been steadily increasing since 2022. In 2024, Russia imported a total of 14,050 tons of Georgian potatoes. Other key buyers included Azerbaijan (10,500 tons) and Armenia (2,180 tons).

Potatoes in Georgia are mainly grown in the eastern and southern regions, particularly in the Tsalka, Akhalkalaki, and Ninotsminda districts.
