GNA's Octopus and PP100 "Pick and Place" solutions

Robotic solutions: The revolution that is changing our future

With a strong focus on robotic solutions, GNA - a company based in Ozzano dell'Emilia (BO), specialising in the design, manufacture and sale of packaging machines for the food and non-food sectors - stands out thanks to the innovation and efficiency of its technologies, which respond to the needs of a constantly evolving market.

Robotic solutions, which are rapidly gaining ground in the sector, are not new to GNA, as the company boasts experience and expertise in integrating advanced automation systems, guaranteeing high performance and significant optimisation of production processes to its customers.

Octopus, a key player in robotic end-of-line packaging
GNA's Octopus model is a new "Pick and Place" solution for bags for the end-of-line segment, designed to fill all kinds of packaging. The system integrates a checkweigher that ensures the correct positioning and synchronisation of products for the picking area.

"Imagine a continuous, orderly flow of crates arriving via a destacker, ready to be filled. These crates, already assembled, arrive from overhead or linear chain conveyors, ready for the next step in the process. A stacker, equipped with a shifter, takes over the filled crates and stacks them precisely, preparing them for the palletising stage. At the heart of the picking area, anthropomorphic robotic arms work tirelessly. Equipped with picking grippers that adapt to the size and shape of the products, these arms ensure that each item is positioned correctly. The depositing of products in the packaging takes place in both static and dynamic modes, offering flexibility and precision. In addition, the system is designed to manage any anomalies with dedicated exits for non-conforming packages and products, ensuring a smooth and seamless process," explains a company note.

Another example of a robotic line is the PP100. "Currently, it is not used in the fruit and vegetable sector, but it is important to note that these systems are generally custom-designed. The versatility of the PP100 lies in its ability to adapt to different requirements: the gripping head is modified according to the type of product to be handled, while the software logic is developed to perform the specific movements required by the robot."© G.N.A. "This customisation allows the system to tackle a wide range of applications, ensuring efficiency and precision in every operation. The PP100 has a speed of 100 cycles per minute and a power consumption of 4.0 kW."
