Kaliningrad region imported around 13,000 tons of fruits and vegetables in 2025 so far

From January 1 to March 20, 2025, approximately 13,000 tons of fresh fruits and vegetables were imported to the Kaliningrad region, arriving from 21 countries. This volume is similar to last year's figures for the same period, when 13,500 tons were imported, according to the regional office of Rosselkhoznadzor.

Citrus fruits comprised the largest portion of the imports, totaling 4,200 tons. These came from countries such as Brazil, South Africa, Turkey, Egypt, Israel, Morocco, and China. Additionally, 5,600 tons of various fruits were imported, including apples and pears from Serbia, Turkey, and South Africa, as well as grapes from India, Namibia, Peru, Chile, and South Africa. Over 2,500 tons of bananas were shipped from Ecuador.

Exotic fruits, including kiwi and berries, accounted for 755 tons, with 55 tons being berries and 700 tons of kiwi and other exotic fruits. Furthermore, 3,000 tons of vegetables were imported, including tomatoes, peppers, zucchinis, cabbage, cucumbers, garlic, mushrooms, onions, carrots, ginger, potatoes, and greens.

During inspections of the fresh vegetables, five types of quarantine pests and diseases were identified in 133 cases (442 tons), including the South American tomato moth, western flower thrips, and various tomato viruses.

Contaminated products were either disinfected or destroyed, while the rest of the goods were allowed for importation.
