FAO to help boost Bangladesh farm exports to China

Chief adviser Muhammad Yunus engaged with FAO director general Qu Dongyu at the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference, aiming to bolster Bangladesh's agricultural exports to China. The meeting, held in a coastal Chinese town, highlighted the need for an increased understanding of the Chinese market to enhance Bangladesh's export capacity.

Yunus emphasized China's role as a major importer of agriculture and aquaculture products and requested FAO's assistance in facilitating connections between Chinese importers and Bangladeshi producers. "We need support in fruit processing and in vegetable preservation, storage, and packaging. You can connect China with our farmers and exporters," Yunus stated.

FAO's director-general, Qu Dongyu, affirmed the organization's commitment to supporting Bangladesh. "We are matchmakers. We will establish a new network between Bangladeshi and Chinese farm companies, he noted. The FAO plans to initiate a new project to aid Bangladesh in exporting farm products to China.

Qu Dongyu acknowledged Bangladesh as the largest recipient of FAO's assistance, expressing optimism for its future under Yunus's leadership. "You are my older brother. I sincerely hope your country does great. We will help you, for sure," he added.
